Sen. Tuberville called out "wokeness" in the Navy, saying people are reading "poems on aircraft carriers." But the art form has been a long been a part of military service, especially for sailors. Tuberville faces widespread criticism for blocking hundreds of promotions over the Pentagon's abortion policy. US Air Force B-2 stealth bombers have returned to Keflavik in Iceland for the first time since 2021. It's the first deployment since B-2 bombers resumed flying after a five-month safety stand down. The deployment is the first one since the stealth bomber fleet returned to normal operations on May 22, 2023, after a five-month safety stand down following the incident in December last year. Reuters is revealing details of the Diego Garcia project and SubCom’s deepening ties with the Pentagon. SubCom’s loyalty is especially important because it is the only major U.S. subsea cable company. Rather, they carefully obscured the U.S. military component within a larger private-sector cable project, according to four subsea cable industry sources with knowledge of the arrangement. That project, known as the Oman Australia Cable, was spearheaded by SUBCO, a Brisbane-based subsea cable investment company owned by Australian entrepreneur Bevan Slattery. Once the Navy project was complete, AT&T’s submarine cable project morphed into a commercial business, the former employees said.

In 1966, the UK leased the US the remote, 17-square-mile Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia. Diego Garcia is now a key US military base, and it is used as a launchpad for the Air Force. The future of the base is uncertain after the UN ruled the UK should return it to evicted islanders. A 2019 ruling from the UN's highest court said Diego Garcia and the islands around it were illegally taken by Britain and should be returned to the islanders who were evicted. In November 2022, officials from the UK and Mauritius, which claims sovereignty over the territory, began negotiations over the future of Diego Garcia in a bid to resolve "outstanding issues."
